How to Win an Election: The Lincoln Four Step

2010 is going to be an opportunity for our nation to return back to its roots, return back to its laws, return back to prosperity, and return back to freedom. After a brief experiment in change and hope and a huge gamble on Obama, our nation is waking up and realizing what a mistake it all was. In 2010 there are elections, and at election time, our nation will change back to the good times that we left behind.

Nationally there are elections for Congress- House and Senate. Locally there are elections for Governors and state Congress. These are all important positions, and they represent an opportunity for real leaders to step forward in our nation- not Republicans or Democrats, but real conservative leaders running as Republicans. It will be important for these leaders to remember just how easy it is to win an election.

Sometimes called the Lincoln Four Step, it still represents the way to win elections today. Supposedly it comes from when Abraham Lincoln ran for congress as the Whig party nominee, and he sent a letter to a supporter offering the view that there were four things they needed to do to win the upcoming election.

The first thing you need to do to win an election is develop a message. Don't look far for this- just re-read the Declaration of Independence and be inspired by its words. Conservatives rarely lose when they run as conservatives.

The next step to winning an election is to plan it out. Get you hands on a list of all registered voters in your district. Figure out who is favorable to your positions and which areas you already have supporters in. Identify and then persuade those who are undecided. Ignore those who are against you or who don't like you. On election day, figure out how to get your voters to the polls. It's that simple.

Of course, to put this plan into action and to get your message out, you will need to raise money. Raising money is going to be a big part of your election strategy- bill boards, mailings, and events don't pay for themselves. You need to be raising money to get your message out, and by getting your message out you'll raise more and more money. Just look at how successful Obama was last election- he managed to scam grandmothers out of their last $5 bill because he sold them a simple message of hope and change, but he was always raising money the whole campaign (and for that matter, so far his entire Presidency).

The last step is to execute your plan, get your message out, and raise that money. That is the time when you smile, shake hands, show up, go door-to-door, go to events, stay after hours to talk to people, and generally work your tail off to execute your plan. Leave no stone unturned. Personally, if Mike Cox or Rocky Raczkowski lose their bids for office, they have only themselves to blame, because neither of them has returned my calls and both have wasted away my offers to help them out. Execute your plan and just do it- that's how to win an election.
