In 2003 the ITDG conducted a study on traditional conflict resolution mechanisms in rural Kenya, they found that these "...structures are closely bound with socio- political and economic realities of the lifestyles of the African communities. These conflict resolution structures are rooted in the culture and history of African people, and are in one way or another unique to each community.
