"I am currently working towards a masters in Computer Science at Brandeis University and have developed a site (http://zen.do) with a few friends that I think can help students in certain learning environments with personalized/optimized learning. Our goal is to offer a tool that allows students to take notes as they normally would while automatically building a study guide of related flashcards. When students review the cards, we use a memory decay model and a Google-style pagerank algorithm to optimize their review time. This allows students to spend their study time as effectively as possible." -
It is great when teachers travel for them to have their students link up vicariously like Carrie Jacobs did when she went to Beijing, China.

Students and staff talked to teacher Carrie Jacobs through Skype during her visit to the Flat Classroom Conference in Beijing, China. Students learned about Chinese culture and saw pictures of her travels, including the Ming tombs, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Jacobs, along with other members of her UNI graduate cohort, traveled to Beijing to participate in and present at the Flat Classroom Conference, an international conference promoting the use of Web 2.0 tools by schools to "flatten" the walls of their classroom and introduce their students to the world." -
Here is a blog post by Michael Gorman demonstrating how a good teacher can use things the kids love (in this case the NCAA Basketball Tournament) to teach. he taught geography. Very innovative!!
