Is it me, or has anyone else noticed the large number of stories in the media about Obama and his family living it up on the taxpayer time? Obama bought new limo's, wanted new helicoptors, redecorated the White House, etc. His wife was on TV yesterday talking about her new dresses and new arms (gym membership and personal trainer). And it seems like every week he is throwing another party or benifit, dancing in a new tuxedo at some fancy event. And then I came across this story.
The President hosted a cocktail party last month, to celebrate Obama's victory, and served steak to the assembled liberal Democrats in attendence. Pretty innoncent stuff. The man deserves a good steak- he is President after all, and nothing satisfies a man like an American-corn fed cow from the Midwest, cooked up perfectly. Sadly, this man doesn't eat that- he eats Wagyu steak, from Japan, that costs $100 a pound and is flown in (using jet fuel) from overseas:
Obama celebrates the House passage of the economic stimulus bill by holding an outrageously expensive dinner party. When you are re-distributing the most wealth in history why not celebrate in style. And so they do. Obama is serving Wagyu steak to House and Senate leaders.
What is Wagyu steak you might ask? The reason you might ask is that likely you have never seen it. It can cost $100 a serving. That is likely to be beyond the average person's budget. But Obama and our top legislators, showing they really don't have a clue about how the average person lives, feast on Wagyu steak after passing the largest spending bill in history. Apparently when they are spending tax payer money, budget is not on their minds.
Wagyu steak comes from Wagyu cattle and is from Japan. It is expensive because these cattle live a pampered life until they are butchered. They are fed well and given beer and daily massages to help keep them happy and hungry even in the heat of summer. They also receive rub downs with Saki, Japanese rice wine, to keep their hides soft. The meat is well marbled with soft flavorful fat.
In a time of economic crises one would think Obama and the legislators would have more sense. Are these legislators that are feasting on outrageously priced steaks the same that berated the auto company executives for their excesses in flying corporate jets to testify before Congress? Why are they not held to a similar accounting.
What's wrong with them eating good old fashioned Angus beef? I've had great steaks for $15. Of course, I had to pay for it myself.
UPDATE: While I was writing this post, I saw that today Obama surprised his daughters with a new swing set- isn't that nice? He is living it up and personally getting a lot of benifits from being President.
