Judges 6:11-6:16

A frequent technique that atheists employ when religion is discussed is to say "Pardon me, but if the Lord is really with us, why has he let bad things happen in this world? Where are all his miraculous deeds that fictional accounts like the Bible recount?" Mockingly they ask "Did the Lord not once do magical deeds, and now where is he?"

This is a frequent, typical, and (to them) a novel argument that you might come across on such atheist blogs like Austin's Atheism Blog, Atheism: Proving The Negative, or No God Blog. They think that they are quite clever with this line of questioning, and then wait triumphantly, because to them the Lord does not exist and so there are no answers to their questions.

I feel sorrow for them because of their lack of belief in the Lord, because the Lord has heard these questions before. As he told Gideon (Judges, 6:14) "You have the strength. Have I not sent you?"

The reason why I feel sorrow for these atheists is because by rejecting the Lord, they are rejecting the strength and power that the Lord gives us. The Lord sent us, and gave us free will, and gave us power, and then gave us the rules to follow, and even sent his Son to be killed for our sins. But the reason why bad things occur, the reason why miracles don't occur, and the reason why our world is less 'magical' is because of the atheists and others who have turned from the Lord, who do not believe in him, and who doubt his existence. By rejecting the Lord, they reject good, and they don't even realize this, and for that I feel sorrow.

The Lord provides- he told Gideon (Judges, 6:16) that if Gideon would only believe in him then the Lord would give him the power to destroy an entire army of unbelievers. That is power! That is strength! Just by accepting the Lord and believing in him and following his rules, you too can be smiled on by the Lord and he will provide for you.

So next time time you confront an atheist and they reject that the Lord exists, you can do the politically correct thing and say that they may have a point and that the Lord may not exist, or you can deny the unbeliever and assert that the Lord does exist, that he has given us the strength and laws to follow to do great things, and that if you only have faith in the Lord, you too can do great things.

UPDATE: The clever atheists all are emailing me asking "If God really exists, how can there be anything bad in the world?" I think atheists are that way because they are uneducated, much like I think that liberals are that way because they are uneducated. This question has been asked and answered many times- it is called "The Problem of Pain", and I suggest if you really want an answer to that question, you read "The Problem of Pain" by CS Lewis, and then email me. And in the future, do your own research on stuff before bothering me about it, or else I am going to treat you like the children you are.
