Four judges in Connecticut decree that citizens must recognize gay marriages

Even though Connecticut's elected officials debated the issue and decided not to have the government support gay marriages- instead granting them virtually the same thing but calling it civil unions- four judges on Connecticut's Supreme Court decided to reinterpret the Connecticut Constitution and find the right to gay marriage in there.

To me, this isn't about gay marriage- it is about the role of judges in our society. Our country is based on the idea that the people- through their elected officials- have the just and legitimate power to rule. This ruling, although possibly the correct moral one, is illegitimate and unjust, and will only cause a backlash against gay couples. In a free society, in a just society, issues are openly debated and decided on by democratically elected officials- because this is the best way to do things.

Soon our nation will be ruled by judges and a dictator, and it will be less free, less just, and less legitimate. God help us all.
