Liberal and Conservative Views on Students

A liberal is someone who believes that government can make something better, while a conservative is someone who believes that government exists to perform certain functions that individuals can not. This inherent contradiction is also present and seen in education.

Conservative teachers have a more hands off style of teaching than liberal teachers- they feel that students can read on their own outside of class, can work in class independently, can think on their own, and perform critical thinking. Liberal teachers, because they don't really believe in the individual, they think that as the government employee, they have to manage student, they have to over-supervise the student during work times, they can't trust students to read at home (homes are horrible places for teachers, places where students go to do stuff on their own- homes are almost as hated as part-time jobs, things that take away from valuable government educated education), liberal teachers think that students must work in groups and arrive at decisions on consensus (usually the biggest intellectual bully gets that consensus), and liberal teachers have to produce cookie-cutter regurgitation results that conform to the teachers wishes exactly.

Conservatives view students as a blank state, as Locke would, to teach and to fill up. Liberals view students as an empty slate, devoid of anything at all, and thus only fit to sprout off the views of their liberal teacher superiors.
