Today in one of my classes a student came up to me and told me that he had seen "the coolest shirt" at the latest Obama rally that he went to. He wanted to know how he could go about getting the shirt, because he wanted to fit in with other people at this rally. What did the shirt say? My student said that the shirt that people were wearing at the Obama rally say "Sarah Palin is a Dumb MILF."
Now, before I explain why I get upset when I hear stuff like this, read this post from Right Wing Nation:
I cannot predict who will win the presidential campaign, but I already know who will lose big: all women. I realized this when I saw a 20-something male student who attends a class in the community college where I teach, wearing a T-shirt that read, “Sarah Palin is a C-.” He wore it in public, in broad daylight, and without shame or even consciousness of what he was doing.
This student of mine had an ugly laugh as he bragged about fitting in with other Obama supporters who view Sarah Palin as unintelligent and suggest improper and vulgar things about her (I'm not explaining what a MILF is here). But I got the distinct impression that he thought it was okay to put women in their 'place' and that at Obama rally's, it was good to disrespect someone like Palin in that manner. I got the impression that once Obama is elected President, there will be a decided lack of respect for mothers, wives, and intelligent or attractive women in this country. Women will suffer a real loss, and that's sad.
